History

Seasoned carpenter Sam Mosby started his own construction company in 1947. Working out of his home in Sunset Hills, Missouri, he had one truck and a few extra hands to help him with the larger jobs.

Sam was a World War II veteran, a man of integrity who knew only one way to do a job: The Right Way. His business steadily grew by word of mouth; satisfied customers referred their friends and neighbors to Sam Mosby. By the 1980s, he was slowing down with an eye toward retirement.

His son Scott had been working in the family business since high school, first as a laborer and working his way into carpentry before leaving for college. After earning his degree, Scott returned to Mosby Construction to handle construction management and remodeling design.

In 1983, Scott bought the business from his father. In 1985 he married Judy, and together they ran the company – with a new emphasis on residential remodeling – out of their house in Glendale, Missouri, holding company meetings in the dining room. Judy was an experienced business administrator, and ran all office functions while also raising their two boys.

In 1994, they bought property in downtown Kirkwood, Missouri and built a proper office for the business that was now named Mosby Building Arts. They pinpointed their mission: Insightful Architecture and responsible remodeling. They hired full-time architects and designers to create the ideas the carpenters brought to life.

When Scott became the Home Improvement Answer Man for KMOX radio, Sam was thrilled at the recognition his son had earned. He told his son, "You're so much smarter than I was. You've taken this business further than I ever could. I'm proud of you."
