Mosby Office Gets a Backup Power Generator
October 31st, 2007
We at Mosby Building Arts constantly help clients with information and installation of backup power generators. With what we know of the aging electrical grid system and the increased instances of being without power, Mosby firmly believes in the safety and logic of generators as a homeowner necessity.
Mosby now “walks the talk” with the installation of our own generator. Considering that we lost a business day in one of the 2006 power outages, and that Kirkwood proves especially prone to losing power in harsh weather, this was a smart decision.
We chose an 18kw generator which provides 80 amps of service. It’s aluminum-coated which makes it more weather resistant, and air-cooled for lower maintenance. Within 30 seconds of losing main power, this generator will kick in and power everything in our offices, save for a portion of our HVAC systems. But this much power allows us to plug in fans or space heaters (depending on the time of year) to keep us comfortable for the duration.

Our Estimator, Tim Wahlig (shown above), oversaw the project, which included digging a hole for the propane tank that powers the generator. This is the model we chose for our needs, but other models run on natural gas and don’t require digging up the yard. As is typical for most communities, it’s a 3-5 week process to get the proper permits. Once you’re legal, the generator can be installed within a week. They require routine maintenance every 100 hours or 1 year, whichever comes first. The peace of mind and sense of preparedness is invaluable.
So, do as we do and consider your own backup power generator. Each home has unique requirements that determine which generator is best for you. We can help you make the smart choice and get you set up to weather any future outages.
