Mosby Building Arts designer, Jake Spurgeon discusses new tile trends to add to your bathroom during your next remodel.

One of the most fun items for any of my clients to select during a bathroom remodel can be the tile. The tile can set the tone for the rest of the bathroom and you don’t have to choose typically shaped tile, like square or rectangle. There are so many new designs out there! Here are a few of the bathroom tile trends I have been seeing that I love:

Fish Scale/Mermaid Tile

This shape of tile instantly gives a bathroom an aquatic feel. The repeating organic arcs give a coastal theme to the bathroom and it adds a lot of visual interest to the space. Not to mention this teal color is gorgeous!

Arabesque Tile

This is another fantastic geometric shape that looks great in bathroom spaces. It can be used as an accent wall in a powder room or even a floor tile. Trading out traditional subway tile for this style is a great alternative.

Black Grout

When using a patterned tile, especially in a pattern like an arabesque, or even with the ever-popular subway, I beg my clients to choose a high contrast grout color, versus blending in with the tile. This really accentuates the look of the pattern and adds an architectural design element frequently overlooked. Plus, black hides all of the dirt.

Water Jet Tile

This tile is always gorgeous and typically allows you to make custom color choices to fit your space.  These intricate, wallpaper inspired tiles add a touch of whimsy and class to any space. They can be used as an accent stripe down the center of the wall or even on the floor of a shower.

Hex Tile Floors

Yes, the classic hexagon tile floor is back, but think on a much grander scale, like 6×6 tiles or larger.  These can be in a classic marble or even some bold pops of color to add a surprising dimension to the shower floor.
