As if it isn’t exciting enough, the 3rd Annual Mosby Christmas Cube Contest had two new twists from previous years. But first, let’s review all of the participants before we get to the winners. Above is one of the highlights of Tina Reese’s cube: a 3D Christmas tree!
And elsewhere in her cube, she had to clarify an important point.
Designer Julie Giljum went with a round ornament theme with special guest appearance by the ICART polar bear.
David Cluff turned everyone in the office into Santa Claus for the mural above.
A fine detail of Ken Ware’s cube was decorated bottles of merry.
Darrell McClanahan (with the help of his two daughters) went Feliz Navidad, complete with chips & salsa and a blender for non-alcoholic margaritas. Pay attention to that Christmas tree pinata hanging above – it makes a spectacular return appearance.
The first new twist to the 3rd Annual Mosby Christmas Cube Contest was a tie for 3rd place.
Noel Jacob’s cube (2 photos above) was decked out as the North Pole. She was the 2010 1st place winner, and this year she shares the 3rd place win with…
…Kelly Rooney and her Peppermint Gingerbread House theme, shown in the 2 photos above.
In 2nd place is Michelle Bridgewater (above and below) with her BridgeH2O Candy Cane Palace.
And here are our 4 big winners, with gift cards to treat themselves over the holidays. From left to right, we have Kelly Rooney, Noel Jacobs, Michelle Bridgewater & Tracy Bax.
Ahhh yes, the Christmas tree pinata… The second new twist is we had a Christmas Cube Contest After party where contestants were blindfolded and spun around as the pinata lowered, and here’s the action packed result:
Look at the group of adults rushing at the candy like 5-year olds. We love it! Thank you to everyone who took part in this event we love so much. And from everyone at Mosby Building Arts, we wish you all Happy Holidays and a Happy New Year!
This Saturday, you can help Operation Homefront assemble packages for the troops overseas. The Mobile Care Package Program makes supporting the troops easy by providing all the contents, like personal hygiene products, books, snacks and clothing. They simply need hands on deck to put the items in the boxes and write encouraging notes and cards to accompany each box.
Come to the Bread Co. in the Green Mount Shopping Center in Shiloh, Illinois between 11 am and 2 p.m. Look for the Mobile Care box truck and tent, and be ready to assemble goodie boxes for our military veterans.
Scott Mosby and KMOX will be broadcasting from inside the Bread Co., so do stop in and say hello!

We had such a blast with the Christmas Cube Decorating contest in 2009, that we just had to do it again. Click to see last year’s cubes.
Here’s the competing cubes for 2010:
And the outcome is:
Susie “Snowflake” Stern (left) and Becky “Griswold” Trent get a thumbs up for their Christmas cubes.
Sarah “Granny” Tabak (above) accepts the 3rd place award on behalf of David Cluff, who designed and built the decorations for her work area (below).
Toby “Blue Christmas” Weiss (above) takes 2nd place for the Elvis Presley Blue Christmas diorama, below.
And the 1st place winner is Noel Jacobs (above), who is a Christmas Day baby, and used her extensive collection of Noel decorations to create the winning cube (which featured a giant Gus’ pretzel spelling “noel” on judging day!).
Each of the winners received gift cards of varying amounts (thank you!), and the judges promised to up the stakes for 2011. Until then, Happy Holidays to All and a Prosperous New Year!

We look forward to meeting with you during the first weekend of October, and are excited to share valuable home improvement knowledge with you!
While recently photographing a master bathroom (see the project here), we were delighted by the company of TJ, a puppy Papillon. The Mosby crew who worked on the bathroom project had quite the adventure when TJ got out of the house and ran off down the street, and they took off after him, caught him and brought him safely back home.
And the crew got comfortable with TJ’s “sister” Gracie, who shared lunch with the guys, Monday through Friday (above photo). The homeowner told us that her dogs miss the guys because they got so much love and attention, and this is not the first time we’ve been told about the relationship between the Mosby production crews and Man’s Best Friend.
This got us to reminiscing about all the canine friends we’ve had the pleasure to meet while photographing finished remodeling projects and we’d like to share them with you.
Molly the basset (above) lives with our long-time Creve Coeur client. During this photo shoot of their outdoor living project (see the project here), Molly gave us a guided tour. Then her “brother” Jake went one better: he demonstrated exactly how to use the dog ramp we designed for all 3 of the basset hounds in the house. Click to see Jake on their doggie ramp!
Sometimes the canine members of the family are camera shy, like on this project (above), while other times…
… a chocolate lab knows he coordinates so well with his new kitchen that he makes sure to saunter into the shot.
Sometimes, they are so unconcerned with all the activity that they simply fall asleep, like the King Charles spaniel in a family room addition (above)…
…while other times, we disrupt their beauty sleep! Though she wasn’t too awfully upset, because if you click through to all these home makeover photos, you’ll spot her resting comfortably in her bed as the camera snapped away.
Seal the German Shepard (above) served double duty as a Project Manager for her finished basement and her master bathroomand worked as a stylist on the photo shoot!
And every exterior renovation needs a dutiful border collie to keep the construction crew in line…or throw out the Frisbee for them!
Remodeling is really about building relationships, and we are proud to have so many wonderful canine members of the Mosby Building Arts family.
Since 1947, Mosby Building Arts has been improving the lives of Metropolitan St. Louis families. From architecture & remodeling to maintenance and repairs, all the knowledge and performance you need is under the MBA roof.
