Home Improvements in the Central West End

A 2007 Homer Award winner for Outstanding Interior Renovation!
Built in 1909, this grand Central West End home was in good shape but required some refurbishing and updating to keep it pristine for the century mark and beyond. From basement to 3rd floor, Mosby designers and carpenters touched most every part of the house and the guiding principal was that new items would be installed but must look as if they'd always been there. A brief laundry list of changes include:
REAR EXTERIOR: Failing stucco was replaced with EIFS and painted to match the rest of the exterior. New wrought iron railings line stairways. Electrical and phone wires are buried underground for a cleaner appearance.
WINDOWS & DOORS: 1st & 2nd floor doors were removed, stripped, refinished and reinstalled. New windows were installed in remodeled areas, with profiles that matched the originals. Door and window frames were repaired as needed and primed for fresh coats of paint. All replacement floor and ceiling mouldings matched the originals.
FLOORS: Where possible, original wood floors and stair treads were stripped and refinished on the 1st and 2nd levels. When not possible, new wood flooring that closely matched the original was laid.
LIGHTING: Click here to see the new style-appropriate fixtures.
2nd FLOOR MASTER SUITE: The north wing was reconfigured. A laundry station and closet were added to a hallway alcove. The bathroom expanded and transformed into a luxury master bath. The original boudoir off the master bedroom became the modern equivalent - a walk-in closet. The 2nd bedroom was slightly reconfigured to become the library and office.
STAIRWELL: 3-stories worth of handrails were stripped and refinished, while balusters were repaired as needed, primed and repainted. The newel post in the foyer was stripped of a misguided paint job and brought back to its former beauty.
