Our client started the project “with a wish and a dream.” She wished to have the washer and dryer moved up the main level of the home, and she dreamed of a sun room overlooking her gorgeous backyard. The project grew into the addition of a screened-in porch off the living room and a spacious laundry/storage/breakfast nook, with the 2 new rooms connected by a large raised patio.

As the project grew, attractive aging in-place features came into being: an accessible ramp from the patio to the backyard; a grab bar and shallow steps from the garage to the new breakfast nook; shallow threshold and slight incline down from breakfast room to patio.

Learn more about mobility design.

It’s a natural flow from the breakfast room to the patio to the screened porch, with the patio feeling like a 3rd room. An abundance of windows and sliding doors make the outdoors a constant and enticing presence.
