Water Heater Short Cycling

Q. I have a two year old high efficiency, sealed combustion water heater that is short cycling and turning off too soon. I also have high sediment in my water supply which causes my Hans Grohe shower valve filter screen to clog up often. Are they related and what might be causing my water heater problem?

A. I suspect that your flame spreader on the base of this gas fired, high efficiency water heater needs to be adjusted or replaced. These are great water heaters but seem to need a bit of attention on these flame spreaders.
The sediment is another issue and might be cause for a house filter system which is differnet than a water softener. This filter can remove grit and sand like sediment and mineral deposits from your water system and lengthen the life of your water heate and other appliances.

There may also be a vent in the bottom of your water heater to be cleaned. Check your owners manual for instructions how to clean this.
