Comprehensive Repair Case Study
Westmoreland Place, Central West End, St. Louis City

The internal water drainage system of this grand 1908 home had malfunctioned. The owner could hear water dripping behind the walls, and see recurring water stains in the plaster.
Plumbing, guttering and roofing specialists had tackled the problem over several years, believing the downspouts were connected to the main plumbing stack. But after repeated expense and effort, the problem remained. A Mosby Consultant was called to evaluate the situation.
The plaster had been removed on the 3rd floor, exposing the plumbing stack. From years of experience with older homes, the Mosby Consultant identified a form of drainage that uses a completely separate line that runs directly into the sewer system. Moving a few feet to the right of the exposed stack, the wall was opened to reveal a rotting pipe running from roofline to basement.
With the problem pinpointed during the consulting phase, the Mosby construction crew removed the original piping, installed a new line, repaired the basement drainage system, and re-plastered the walls to the original condition.
The owner had discovered a firm that understands old homes, and learned that specialists can lack important knowledge outside the scope of their specific field. A house is an interconnected system, and to properly repair one portion requires knowledge of all the components connected to it. Decades of discovery experience in all facets of home repair and remodeling is what makes Mosby Building Arts the smart place to start all your home improvements.
