A Webster Groves, MO family was ready for a new kitchen. They wanted two ovens, special zones for cooking, entertaining and working, and a look that was more architecturally significant to match the classic style of their home built in 1922.

To gain historical heft, Mosby Building Arts designer Jill Worobec suggested a deeply coffered ceiling in the kitchen, along with furniture-grade white cabinetry. And instead of the kitchen flowing directly into the family room, a formal arched entry way would add grace and sense of place.

After the client made initial selections for cabinets, counters and colors, Jill presented them with a series of drawings in both 2D and 3D (one of those is shown above) so they could get a precise picture of what their new kitchen could look like.

The Mosby Planning and Design team employs drafting software that converts their floor plans and elevations into multi-dimensional renderings. Along with truly being able to understand the design concepts, you can also “walk through” the drawing. More about that in a moment!

Jill tucked a desk into a bank of pantry cabinets, and designed a cherry wood island that contrasts beautifully with the white cabinetry. As shown above, she did a 2D drawing of how this end of the kitchen could look, as seen if one is standing in front of the stove.

And this is how it turned out after the Mosby carpenters completed the job. Having access to these multi-dimensional drawings is just as useful to the builders as it is to the homeowners. Everyone benefits from a detailed road map to get them to the final destination, with no surprises.

Previously (above), the kitchen spilled into the family room. Jill envisioned a wall with a wide, arched entry. Along with drawings, they were able to give the client a 360 degree view of the kitchen. And now there’s another advancement in truly experiencing your space before it’s built: A 3D Viewer.

Floor plans and elevations are converted into 2D and 3D models. These models can now be uploaded to a Chief 3D Viewer app that a client can access on an iPad. This lets you navigate in any direction and virtually walk through every nook and cranny of your project. The video above conveys how it looks and feels for the client to “walk around” in their new kitchen.

Because Mosby gave the family the tools to see exactly how their remodeling project would turn out, they signed off on the construction phase of the project with complete confidence. Then came the the excitement of watching those drawings come to life in their house. And now there’s the continual delight that they got exactly what they paid for, with no surprises.
